Youth pastor
Alex Bueno was born in Austin, Texas, and raised in San Diego, California. Growing up in a military family brought unique challenges, especially during seasons when his father was deployed. At the age of 15, during a conversation with his youth pastor, Alex came to understand that Jesus Christ is always near and that He loved the world so much that He gave His life for our sins. That day, Alex trusted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.
After God brought him back to Austin, Alex discovered Scenic Hills Baptist Church in 2018 and has been a faithful member since that time. Shortly after joining, the Lord stirred his heart to serve, and he began volunteering as an intern and assisting with Vacation Bible School and other ministries. During this season, Dr. Rasmussen visited Austin with the West Coast Baptist College tour team and encouraged Alex to consider giving a year to the Lord at Bible college. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Alex enrolled at West Coast Baptist College. What began as a single year of study soon grew into a greater mission, prompting Alex to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Studies.
Alex graduated in 2023 cum laude and was honored with the President’s Award, for which he gives all glory to God. He is currently continuing his education through West Coast Baptist College, pursuing a Master’s degree in Bible online, with plans to graduate in May of 2026. In May of 2023, Alex began to serve as the Youth Pastor at Scenic Hills Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Matthew Cox.
While attending West Coast Baptist College, Alex met his wife, Amber, while both were serving in the bus ministry. They were married in May of 2025. Amber grew up in a Christian home, was saved at a young age, and has faithfully served in children’s, youth, bus, and sound at Cleveland Baptist Church for many years. Though she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Akron, the Lord directed her heart toward full-time service in ministry. Today, Amber joyfully serves alongside Alex in the van, youth, and children’s ministries.
Alex and Amber share a deep burden for reaching children and teenagers with the Gospel, particularly through bus and van routes that bring the message of Christ into homes and communities that may not otherwise hear it. They believe children are precious and that these early years are vital in shaping a lifelong walk with God. Their desire is to faithfully teach God’s Word, help young hearts memorize Scripture, and show the love, grace, and goodness of Christ.
