The Bread of Life

This morning was a wonderful service. We were able to have the Lord’s Supper and a great fellowship meal followed. We were also pleased to have with us Evangelist Richard Coyle who stopped by for a visit. Today’s message centered around the Lord’s supper with an emphasis upon Christ as our bread. the Bible has over 300 references to bread in it. Now not all of them are about Christ but it is really amazing when you study it out how many of them can apply to Him. It was especially key though that we look at John 6 and see Jesus as the bread of life. One thing Jesus tried to do throughout his earthly ministry was let us understand that when you live your life for yourself it is only physical and temporal, but if lived for Christ then life is eternal and spiritual. We have gotten away much from the idea that Christians are to be spiritual. In some communities of believers spirituality has taken on a mystical or spooky character, while in others to be spiritual you must speak in tongues. The Christian is to be spiritual. He is no longer under the authority of the flesh or natural man but rather he is under a new direction, the Spirit. I think it is time that we as Christians stop living life for the physical and temporal and begin to live according to the Spirit and for the eternal. It is time we take and eat of the spiritual bread lest we die in the wilderness like those of old. John 6: 22-59
